Tommy Fury issues new demand after Jake Paul cancels August 6 fight

Tommy Fury is ‘confident’ a fight against Jake Paul will happen despite a bout between the rivals being cancelled for the second time.

Fury, 23, was due to face long-term rival Paul at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday, August 6 with their fight in December having been called off.

But the former Love Island star was denied entry into the USA, forcing Paul to scrap the fight and look for a different opponent.

Fury was unable to obtain a visa allowing him to enter the country for the recent pre-fight press conference and Paul set a deadline of today (Wednesday) for the Manchester fighter to resolve the situation.

But former YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul confirmed on social media he has called off the fight and will announce a new opponent on Thursday.

Fury then issued a statement of his own, urging Paul to stick to the date but with a change of venue. He said: “I'm gutted and disappointed in regards to the issues I have faced with entry into the USA. This is something that myself or my team could have never anticipated happening. This situation has been left with my lawyers as being denied entry to a country is obviously a very serious issue and it needs to subsequently be resolved.

“I am confident this fight will happen when this issue gets resolved and we come to a solution. I want to clarify that I will fight in a neutral country that both parties can enter. This can be any time, any place, any where.”

Paul previously tweeted: "OK, you want me to fight in the UK? Show me $15million. Here in America we do more pay-per-view buys, we do more ticket sales and we do more sponsorship. I've shown you the money we're ready to go."

Paul still plans to fight at Madison Square Garden next month and says he will announce a new fight tomorrow (Thursday).

Hasim Rahman Jr, the son of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, is believed to be his new opponent.

Fury saw off Poland’s Daniel Bocianski with a dominant points decision win on the undercard of half-brother Tyson’s heavyweight title victory against Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in April.
