Tommy Fury beats Anthony Joshua's score on punch machine - but not brother Tyson's

Tommy Fury beat Anthony Joshua's score on the punch machine yesterday, but couldn't measure up to his world heavyweight champion brother Tyson.

The Love Island star is an 8-0 professional boxer, but fights around light-heavyweight, or well under the cruiserweight limit. But he can still pack a big punch, as he landed a 949 score on a punch machine at his family's gym in Morecambe, coming in over 100 points higher than when Joshua, a two-time unified world heavyweight champion, tried his luck in 2017.

Joshua participated in the common pub game during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in June of 2017 and landed a heavy punch, but with seemingly much less power than the Furys. However, the machines are different makes and could have separate calibrations, meaning the scores could be wildly different.

Even so, the younger Fury can be pleased with his score, even if it was 42 points lower than when his brother Tyson did the same challenge earlier this month. He has struggled to land knockouts in his recent ring outings but did drop 10-1 Daniel Bocianski in his last fight at Wembley Stadium on Tyson's undercard in April.

He and his brother are both in camp for major fights coming up towards the end of the year, with Tommy expected to co-headline the event on Floyd Mayweather's exhibition bout with YouTube star Deji on November 13. He is believed to have turned down former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in favour of the little-known 5-2 American Paul Bamba.

Fury has been angling for a bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul over the past two years and is hopeful that appearing in such a key position on a major card in Dubai will earn him another opportunity at the American. They were scheduled to square off twice over the last few years, but he pulled out first due to injury and then travel issues.

And a matter of weeks later on December 3, Tyson will be back in the ring for the second time this year to face either Mahmoud Charr or Anthony Joshua. The unbeaten heavyweight champion has been going back-and-forth with Joshua's team in efforts to get a contract signed, but delays have caused him to seemingly give up on the massive domestic super-fight.

Instead, it seems more likely that he will face former WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Charr at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Fury has accepted Charr's social media challenges and appears keen to face the German, who has a considerably less impressive CV than Joshua.

It remains to be seen what is next for Joshua, who has been in camp preparing for Fury and is expected to return two weeks later if that fight falls apart. He could face a ranked heavyweight, but not a major challenge as he aims to bounce back from two consecutive world title losses to Oleksandr Usyk over the last 13 months.
