Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis delayed into 2027, but there's a new gameplay trailer to make up for it

Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.

A lot of what's happening at today's Sony State of Play showcase doesn't directly impact us, thanks to Sony's decision to cut back on PC game releases, but this one does: A new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and also a release date that's a bit of a delay from what we expected.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, "a complete reimagining of the 1996 original Tomb Raider" done up in the new technology of Unreal Engine 5, was initially intended to be out this year. But during today's showcase, the release date was set for February 12, 2027, a couple months past that deadline.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, we also got a closer look at what's in store in this do-over. "Where the original moved you from one self-contained room to the next, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis opens those spaces into semi-connected environments you can traverse, explore, and approach from new angles," Sony explained. "Every space is designed as a real place first, rich with secrets, collectibles, and resources to reward those who go looking.

"Even returning favorites like the cog puzzle come back reimagined and grounded in the world around them. The result is a Peru brought fully to life, with the scope, history, and personality to make every iconic moment unforgettable."

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is up for wishlisting now on Steam, where the new release date hasn't yet been applied—for the moment, it's still listed as "coming soon." The standard edition will set you back $60/£50/€60, or you can pony up an extra tenner for the deluxe edition, which will get you two days of "advanced access" plus a Parisian Fugitive outfit and a "post-launch story DLC pack."
