Tom Latham's captaincy is real hallmark of New Zealand's historic series triumph in India: Craig Cumming

NEW DELHI: New Zealand achieved their first-ever Test series victory in India, ending India's 18-series winning streak at home. The win also marked the first time India suffered a series whitewash at home since 1999/2000.

Former New Zealand cricketer, Craig Cumming, highlighted Tom Latham's captaincy as a key factor in the team's success.

“He captained the team brilliantly. He kept things simple. He didn't try and chop and change all the time with the spinners, and just about trusted the left-arm spin in Mitchell Santner in the second Test and then Ajaz in (the third Test),” Cumming said in an interview.

Cumming contrasted Latham's approach with former captain Tim Southee's, suggesting Latham's trust in his bowlers' consistency proved effective.

This victory elevates New Zealand to fourth place in the World Test Championship standings, placing them in contention for the final in June 2025. India, on the other hand, drops to second place.
