Tom Kerridge slammed by nurse and single mum for selling £185 cook-at-home boxes

Chef Tom Kerridge was called out by a nurse, a single mum-of-three and a man in fuel poverty for trying to sell £185 cook-at-home Valentine boxes.

The Michelin-starred chef has created the meal for two for the romantic holiday but those who buy it still have to put in the work of cooking the food.

It costs a whopping £92.50 per person for a home-cooked meal.

Tom, 48, said of his new meal boxes: “We’ve got something special to help you celebrate Valentines this year.

“Our box includes everything you need to make your Valentines super special. And it serves two people.

“So whether you are looking at cooking a meal for the person you love or you want to gift one of these boxes to a couple you think deserve it, please visit tomkerridge.com to order.”

However, some have blasted him as they say the dishes are almost the same as last year's With Love From Tom Kerridge boxes.

Others questioned why he hasn't catered towards vegan, vegetarian and other dietary requirements.

Single mum Jo Bainton fumed at the prices and exclaimed: "My food budget for the month as a single mum with three kids."

Mental health nurse added to the conversation and stated: "Nurse wage, will have to stick with a M&S dine in."

Bill Hardie was also displeased with the prices and said: "If you wanna do something good with your money, rather than buy this over priced s***e, give your money to a food bank.

“Who will feed a lot more families who are struggling."

He went on to explain how people are struggling in this economy and ended with: "It's heat or eat for us."

The meal, which has to be heated and assembled at home, includes three courses but no drinks.

Starters include Sourdough Tortano Loaf and Cultured Jersey Butter and Treacle Cured Salmon Gravadlax, Celeriac & Apple Remoulade, Avruga Caviar and Sea Salt Cracker.

The main star of the box is the main meal of Beef Wellington, Caramelised Hispi ‘Caesar’, Celeriac and Truffle Purée with a Hermitage Sauce.

And for dessert? Sticky Toffee Pudding.

It was pointed out that 2021's menu was basically the same as beef wellington and sticky toffee pudding was also served.

Angry Amanda Holloway asked: “Really disappointed Tom. Why no new menu. This was awesome last year, we would have brought it again if the menu was different.”

It's not the first time Tom was slammed for his sky-high prices as he previously had to defend selling £87 steak at his pubs.
