Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for “border czar,” outlined his plans to address illegal immigration during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.” Homan emphasized the importance of worksite operations in combating sex trafficking and forced labor trafficking. He criticized the Biden administration for shutting down work site enforcement, which he believes is crucial in identifying victims of these crimes.
Homan defended the necessity of deportations, highlighting the legal avenues available to individuals through the immigration court system. He stressed that individuals have the right to claim asylum and have their cases heard by a judge. However, he emphasized that if a judge orders deportation, it must be carried out to uphold the integrity of the legal process.
Expressing his disapproval of sanctuary cities, Homan characterized them as havens for criminals. He expressed hope that local law enforcement in these jurisdictions would cooperate with the incoming administration. Homan also referenced Trump’s past actions of using the Department of Justice to take legal action against sanctuary cities.
During the first Trump administration, Homan served as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). His views on immigration enforcement align with the previous administration's tough stance on illegal immigration.
