Tom Davies situation explained as Everton star makes training return after long-term injury

Tom Davies is back in training as he continues his recovery from injury.

The midfielder has been out of action since the beginning of November after suffering a knee injury against Tottenham Hotspur. His return was then hampered by a hamstring issue that required surgery. Pictures from Finch Farm show Davies taking part in training drills on Thursday.

The development is a positive sign of his progress as his rehabilitation continues after several months out. Davies was initially omitted from the 25 man squad registered with the Premier League when Everton were asked to submit an updated set of players following the January transfer window. Jean-Philippe Gbamin's loan to CSKA Moscow then freed up a space allowing for his return to the registered squad, however.

Davies initially picked up a knee injury in the Goodison Park draw with Spurs. Weeks later he suffered a high-grade tendon injury that required surgery - which he underwent in January.

The 23-year-old, who has scored one goal in seven appearances this season, looked set to miss the rest of the campaign and was therefore left out of the registered squad before being re-registered.

Yerry Mina was also pictured taking part in training drills at Finch Farm. The centre back was left out of the squad that faced Liverpool after returning in the previous game against Leicester City.

That was his first appearance since recovering from an injury sustained in Frank Lampard's first game in charge at Newcastle United in January. Lampard said Mina was left out as a result of attempts to manage his availability for the final six games of the season.
