Tom Davies 'concretely thinking' about Serie A proposal after Everton contract offer

Everton midfielder Tom Davies has been offered a three-year deal by Serie A club AS Monza, according to a new report.

Just four Premier League starts last season has raised questions about whether Davies - who joined Everton as an 11-year-old - will remain at the club despite being offered a new deal. The 24-year-old is yet to start under Sean Dyche, with a hamstring injury also ruling him out of the end of the campaign.

Davies impressed when he first burst through the academy, earning praise for his energetic, box-to-box style. An impressive start to his professional career saw the Academy graduate nominated for the Golden Boy award in 2018, an honour given by sports journalists for the best young talent in Europe.

However, just like Everton as a club, Davies has lost his way in recent seasons. The West Derby native suffered an injury-ravaged 2021-22 under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard, causing him to tumble down the pecking order and remain on the periphery of the squad last season.

As it stands, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye and James Garner are ahead of him in the pecking order, with Alex Iwobi also now operating as a central player, although that happened less under Dyche. Davies is currently mulling over a new Goodison Park deal before his contract expires next week.

However, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim Monza, who finished 11th in Serie A last season, have offered Davies an escape route. CEO Adriano Galliani and technical director Francois Modesto are tasked with signing players and, given Davies’ Premier League pedigree, a free transfer appears tempting.

The report goes as far as to suggest that the midfielder is “concretely thinking” about the offer from abroad. Davies has amassed 179 appearances for his boyhood club since debuting as a 17-year-old in 2016.
