Tom Brady Shares Condolences After Death of Ex-Teammate Ryan Mallett

Tom Brady shared his condolences with the family of former Patriots teammate Ryan Mallett on Wednesday, one day after the 35-year-old died in a drowning accident in Florida.

Mallett played for three seasons, from 2011–13, as Brady’s backup quarterback in New England. He appeared in four games in 2012.

Brady joined the chorus of sympathy from athletes who played with Mallett during his career by posting a picture of the two quarterbacks together on a practice field on his Instagram story.

“We lost a great man. Thank you for everything Ryan,” Brady wrote. “Praying for the Mallett family and all their loved ones tonight.”

Mallett drowned in the waters off Gulf Shore Drive in Destin, Fla, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Lifeguards brought him out of the water and performed live-saving measures until he was transported from the beach to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mallett played for the Patriots, Texans and Ravens during his eight-year NFL career. He played in 21 NFL games with eight career starts, compiling nine touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. He retired from the NFL after the 2017 season.

Mallett played college football at Michigan and Arkansas.

Since his playing career ended, Mallett began coaching, first as an assistant at Mountain Home High School in Arkansas. In 2022, he was named head coach at White Hall High in Arkansas.
