Tom Brady's sacks and four other unwanted NFL records after Brett Maher disaster

The 2022 NFL season has once again blown fans away with some incredible games, individual performances and memorable moments - with a few records being broken along the way.

The league is in a strong position at the moment, with legends such as Tom Brady and Aaron Rodger still performing at an elite level - players who will be remembered as two of the greatest of all-time - along with a number of emerging superstars. But sometimes in the NFL, it can only take one play that can etch your name down in history.

Conversely, not all records are those that are wanted by legends in the league, or by teams. But whilst they aren't wanted, it's fair to say that they are memorable.

Here, Mirror Sport takes a look at five of the best records that players and teams will absolutely not be proud of.

Tom Brady sacks

When you play for as long as Tom Brady has, you're going to have a few records to your name - both wanted and unwanted.

If we're being honest, this statistic is not a blemish on what has been the greatest career in the history of the sport, after winning seven Super Bowl's and five Super Bowl MVP's, but it's still one that he won't be proud of.

Brady became the most-sacked quarterback in NFL history during the mid-way point of this past season. It means the 45-year-old has been taken down 555 times. Incredibly, Brady has only suffered one serious injury throughout his career, when he missed the entire 2008 season after a sack in the first game.

Brett Maher's missed kicks

This past weekend saw arguably the worst kicking performance in NFL history, becoming the first player ever to miss four extra points in one game since the stat begun tracking back in 1932.

The league percentage for extra point conversion this past season was 96%, with Maher incredibly missing four of the 33-yard attempts in a row.

Thankfully, it did not matter as the Dallas Cowboys were dominant in their win over Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with Maher keeping his job as their head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott have both come out and backed the veteran kicker.

Minnesota Vikings playoff woes

No team has lost more times in the playoffs than the Minnesota Vikings, who have a desperately disappointing post-season record of 21 wins and 31 losses.

This also gives them one of the worst playoff win percentages, winning just 40.1% of their playoff games.

The Vikings were apart of one of the more desperate defeats in recent playoff history, when Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal to win the game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Vikings have also not made the Super Bowl in 47 years - the second-longest drought since making the championship game behind the New York Jets, who have not made it for 56 years.

Two winless seasons

For nine years, the Detroit Lions had been the only team to not win in a 16-game season. That 2008 Lions team were a butt of many jokes, which was also the year when quarterback Dan Orlovsky infamously ran out of the back of the end-zone unknowingly to cost his team a safety (two-point penalty).

The Cleveland Browns came so close to replicating that in 2016, winning the penultimate game of the season as they eventually finished 15-1, but the following season would be an unmitigated disaster under head coach Hue Jackson, who threw rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer into the fire as the starter - which did not go well.

The Browns gave up on Kizer, trading him away as they drafted his replacement - Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick, one which they wish they could have back - passing on both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

Brett Favre interceptions

The Country gunslinger himself, Brett Favre is rightly remembered as being one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.

Favre kept Aaron Rodgers on the bench for three years, as he still played at an elite level into his 40's - having one of the more dynamic arm's in the NFL, being able to make passes that no other quarterback, at that time, could even dream of making.

That ability came with a lot of rewards, but also a lot of risks - and those risks didn't always pay off, as Favre threw a whopping 336 interceptions - 58 more than the man in second place, George Blanda.
