Tom Brady knows better than anyone that quarterback-receiver relationships don’t last forever. Be it for things like the salary cap, team chemistry, or age reasons, these dynamics almost always have a finite expiration date. But even Brady couldn’t have seen an old joke about Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen coming true.
After Diggs was shockingly traded to the Houston Texans, an old video of Brady telling other great quarterbacks that their No. 1 receivers were destined to leave them resurfaced on Thursday morning. It happened during the 2022 edition of The Match, and it features Brady telling Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, and Allen that a top pass-catcher “leaving you” is essentially part of the job.
Little did Brady and Allen know that the legendary quarterback’s prediction would come true in the form of the Diggs trade:

Wow. Dare I say “Tom-stradamus”?
I guess it really is just the name of the game. Eventually, as a great quarterback, you’re just gonna have to make do with another hopeful top pass catcher at a certain point. As the Bills try to reinvent themselves, this was Allen’s first hard lesson on that front.
