The Cleveland Browns stunned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and in doing so handed Tom Brady a career first - at the age of 45.
The Buccaneers thought they were moments away from victory until Daniel Njoku made a brilliant catch to score a late touchdown and send the game to overtime. And in additional time Nick Chubb snatched victory away from the Buccaneers, who went into the game as huge favourites.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Brady, who was hoping to guide the Buccaneers to a positive record once again. But the defeat was even more crushing, as it became the first time he had ever lost an NFL game when leading by seven points or more heading into the final two minutes.
Brady is known for this prolific late drives that have won NFL games and even Super Bowl titles throughout his exceptional career. But he's not used to being on the receiving end of late drama, as his statistic shows.
Despite making his debut in 2000, Brady has never lost when heading into the last two minutes when leading by at least seven points, but that streak has now come to an end. That's 218 games that Brady had held the record for until Sunday's clash.
Brady was naturally frustrated by the loss, and blamed their inability to score points as the reason they've suffered defeats this season. "Yeah I mean 17 points isn't enough, we've learnt that a lot this season," Brady said after the game.
"We had the chances, we just didn't make the plays but they did." And it was Brady's former team-mate Jacoby Brissett that was calling the plays for the Browns.
Brady and Brissett were briefly at the New England Patriots together in 2016, but the current Browns star took his chance to get the better of the veteran. He even rubbed salt in the wound by copying one of Brady's recent catchphrases that made the headlines.
"That was f****** awesome," Brissett said, copying what Brady had said after the Buccaneers beat the Los Angeles Rams recently. But a humble Brissett claimed he was just grateful for the opportunity to be playing, amid expectation that he may have played his last game of the season.
DeShaun Watson is free to make his long-awaited debut next week as the quarterback is finally free from suspension, and could line-up against his former side - Houston Texans. But Brissett welcomed his return, claiming he will still give his all.
"I still have a job to do. I’m still on the team," Brissett said. "I’ve still got to be the same person everyday, no matter what. I’m excited for him to come back and looking forward to next week."
