More than 10,000 cases of a refrigerated tofu product sold in 29 states have been recalled because printing ink from the package may have moved into the food itself. The product is Hodo Chili Crisp Lightly Fried Tofu, sold in 8-ounce packages under UPC 850565007842.
The recall reached wide public attention over the weekend after it appeared in a Food and Drug Administration enforcement report, though Oakland-based Hodo, Inc. began the action on August 7. That gap is the part shoppers should focus on, because this is refrigerated tofu with use-by dates running as late as November 7, which means affected packages can still be sitting in home refrigerators more than three weeks after the recall started.
