A toddler was found wandering alone in a main street wearing just a nappy.
The youngster, who was thought to be just three-years-old, was spotted on Sunday morning in Uddingston strolling in the town's Main Street.
A concerned passer-by took the child by the hand into the nearby Greggs store for warmth and comfort, Daily Record reported.
Staff there, along with a local man, cared for the boy whilst a public appeal was put out on social media in a bid to track the tots parents.
Police were also notified, who in turn contacted the relevant partner agencies for assistance.
A related Facebook post read: "URGENT.
"My partner is currently in Gregg’s Uddingston Main Street with a lost toddler, around 3/4 years old found walking in a nappy on his own.
"Please can this be shared as they can’t locate the parents, he’s cuddled into my partner as he won’t settle with anyone else! Currently waiting on the police arriving."
It is understood the toddlers parents hadn’t realised their son had left, saw the social media post and went to check on him realising he had vanished and frantically raced to retrieve their son.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.30am on Sunday, June 19, police received a concern for person call.
"A member of the public contacted police to say they had seen a young child on his own in Main Street Uddingston.
"The child was located and showed no signs of distress. Officers carried out enquiries and liaised with partner agencies.
"The child was returned home to his parents.”
