A toddler died in a freak accident after her mum allegedly ran over the girl outside the driveway of the family home.
Mum Jafria Thornburg, from Arizona, US, had placed 13-month-old Crya Rose Thoeming in her car seat in an area where she believed her daughter would be safe while she parked her car, according to police.
She was trying to get the car out of a tight space but tragedy struck when the canopy of the car seat became entangled in the front tire, and the seat fell into the path of the car.
“While repositioning the vehicle, the front tire caught the canopy of the car seat, causing it to fall backward which led to the infant suffering critical injuries,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
Yavapai County sheriff's were called to the scene and Cyra was rushed to Verde Valley Medical Centre with critical injuries. Tragically, she died from her injuries.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Department's Criminal Investigations Bureau confirmed it is still investigating the incident.
Cyra's family have been left devastated by the loss and set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her funeral. It has raised over $18,000.
The page states Cyra was born on May 16, 2022 and passed away on July 6 in a "terrible automobile accident."
"There isn't anyone who didn't smile their biggest after spending just a moment with her. It didn't matter how you felt, she would make your day better," the description reads.
Mum Jafria said a piece of her is "gone forever" after her daughter tragically died.
She wrote: “She is so loved and was wanted and needed in my life for sooooo many years. I finally felt complete having her. A piece of me is gone forever and nothing will ever be the same.”
Cyra's dad, Michael Thoeming, thanked everyone who had donated to the page before paying tribute to his daughter.
"She was a living miracle and reminded me, my spouse and all she came in contact with that the love of God and the goodness of heaven are often with us here on Earth in the form of a person," he wrote.
Michael said he and his wife would never stop "carrying" their daughter in their hearts.
In a separate post on Facebook, he added: "Though I've lost you here on earth. I will follow the path that will lead me back to you one day. I will always be your Father which is the greatest title I have ever held in this life.
"My every waking moment is dedicated to being the man that you made me. I love you Cyra Rose. Forever."
The heartbreaking post was met with messages of condolences including from Cyra's grandmother who said the tot "left an indelible impression on everyone who met her."
Her uncle also paid tribute, writing: "My heart is in pieces, this little girl lit up the room every time I was around her and her family. My family and myself have lost a truly special piece of our peace."
And a family friend added: "There are no words… sending you all the love in the world during this tremendously difficult time."
