Norwich City star Todd Cantwell has offered a hint at what Rangers must offer if he is to make a move to the Scottish Premiership this month.
Cantwell is out of contract with Norwich City in the summer and doesn't appear to be in David Wagner's plans for the remainder of the season having been bombed out of the squad for his first game in charge against Blackburn in the FA Cup. It marks a rapid fall from grace for the England U21 international after just 12 months ago he was being tipped for a big money away from Carrow Road with Newcastle United and Aston Villa credited with an interest.
The midfielder was struggling for minutes under Dean Smith at the time but reports at the time claimed that Norwich has slapped a bumper £20million price tag on Cantwell with English Premier League sides keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, but in the end he opted for a move to Bournemouth on loan. At the time, he admitted that game time was more important to him than a bumper deal in England's top flight.
Speaking to talkSPORT he said: "My main priority, like most footballers, is game time. Obviously I wasn’t getting the game time that I’d have liked and things weren’t going the way that I’d have liked or planned.
“For me it’s about being proactive in a situation and looking at it for my career really. At my age it’s important that I’m playing games, playing often and helping the team. It seemed like a no-brainer for me."
Michael Beale looks set to offer Cantwell the chance to kickstart his career north of the border as he looks to make his first signing as Rangers boss. Malik Tillman has held the playmaker role at Ibrox following Beale's arrival from Queens Park Rangers, and Ianis Hagi is nearing a return from injury.
Norwich have reportedly knocked back interest from clubs in the English Championship already. A promise of minutes at Ibrox could see Beale edge out the competition and help Cantwell get his career back on track.
