Todd Cantwell hails Rangers pal as a 'DIAMOND' as he details his personal importance in goal tribute

Todd Cantwell has hailed Scott Wright as a DIAMOND as he revealed the importance of his Rangers team-mate since his arrival.

Michael Beale landed the midfielder in a January transfer from Norwich City with the 25-year-old joining Nicolas Raskin in making the move to Ibrox during the winter window as the new boss starts to shape his vision for the club after replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the helm. Steven Gerrard's former No2 is back for a second stint at the club and his first in the big chair and he's still to taste defeat in the league after his side showed their powers of recovery once again with a 4-2 win at Fir Park.

The Light Blues got off to a horror start with Kevin van Veen netting with just three minutes on the clock but skipper James Tavernier curled home a free-kick for his 98th goal for Rangers before he turned provider for Fashion Sakala to head home inside the opening minute of the second half. Comical defending allowed Bevis Mugabi to level before Cantwell smashed home his first goal for his new club to restore the visitors' advantage. The returning Malik Tillman then scored a cracker into the roof of the net to make sure of the points in a thrilling 90 minutes.

It was a moment to remember for Cantwell as he got off the mark for Rangers and looks sharper with each passing game. But he handed special praise to one team-mate - who has been on the fringes of things under Beale. Uploading a picture to his Instagram stories, he wrote: "I have a diamond of a boy celebrating like he scored with me today, been so important to me since I signed. Love you bro @scottwright_."

In a separate post he added: "Another good win on the road, Great to get my goal for the mighty @rangersfc . Great away support again."

Giving his reaction to Rangers TV, Beale explained: “I didn't like the first two or three minutes but after that I thought we were in control for most of the game.

“In the first-half our crossing wasn't very good and we spoke about that at half-time and straight away we saw an improvement and it was a fantastic second goal. It was also lovely for Todd [Cantwell] to get his first goal for Rangers and then it was a fantastic finish from Malik Tillman.

“My only frustration in the game was that we didn't score more and the two goals we conceded, but for us to play as attacking as we are sometimes to score goals you may have to concede one every now and then.

“It was quite a slow pitch actually, it was a good pitch but quite slow and the ball was holding up, so we needed to speed up in our passing, running and improve in our final cross.

“After the second goal you could see we were enjoying ourselves. We were playing football in the right way and counter-pressing really well. Overall, we can go into this international break in a really positive way, our form has been strong in the league, and we are showing really good form away from home.”
