Todd Boehly sent damning Raheem Sterling warning as Chelsea finalise £55m Man City transfer

Todd Boehly has been warned against signing Raheem Sterling despite Chelsea close to welcoming the Manchester City star to Stamford Bridge. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from the Etihad this summer and the Blues have emerged as the England international's most likely destination.

football.london understand that Thomas Tuchel's side have nearly completed the signing of Sterling in a deal worth £45million, plus an additional £10million payable via add-ons. The winger looks set to become the first signing of a new era in west London, with Boehly eager to welcome 'a-list' players this summer.

However, despite the American billionaire's plans to bolster Chelsea's armoury, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan is unconvinced by Sterling. Speaking on talkSPORT, the now-pundit has explained his concerns with narrative that the Blues are making a 'statement signing'.

"On paper, because of the name, because of where he's coming from and who he's going to and what stage Chelsea are at — in terms of the new ownership model post-Abramovich — it looks like a really big statement signing," Jordan said. "I personally don't think it is."

The 54-year-old added by explaining why Sterling hasn't excelled at City. The winger directly contributed towards 225 goals in 337 appearances while playing pivotal roles in lifting four Premier League titles, five League Cups and a FA Cup.

"I don't think it's going to bridge the gap between where Chelsea are and where they want to be, but we will see," Jordan said. "I don't think he's excelled at Manchester City, he's done okay for Manchester City. If he had excelled for Man City he wouldn't be leaving Man City with the problem being that he's not getting enough games.

"I think he's done well. I think if you go into Manchester City's side, I think it's a stupid argument to say that he's not a good player. No one would say that Raheem Sterling isn't a good player. I don't think he does enough."

With a move Chelsea on the cards for Sterling this summer, the Englishman has begun preparing for life away from the Etihad after agreeing to sell his current property near Manchester, according to The Mirror. The report adds that Alexander-Arnold has been in talks to purchase Sterling's house in Cheshire, which is set to cost the England international around £4.5million.

It's said that Alexander-Arnold currently lives on the same road as Reds team-mate Alisson Becker and departing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. But, with Sterling poised to leave City, the defender is reportedly set to move in.
