Todd Boehly must sign a new striker at Chelsea to avoid 'failure' following Armando Broja injury

Chelsea are exploring a number of striker options ahead of the January transfer window. Cristiano Ronaldo, Youssoufa Moukoko and Rafael Leao have all been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks as Todd Boehly plans to back Graham Potter with new signings.

The arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer aimed to help bolster the Blues' attacking options. Potter must solve Chelsea's poor form in front of goal as they look to secure a top four spot come the end of the season.

Armando Broja's anterior cruciate ligament injury which he sustained in a friendly against Aston Villa during the World Cup break will see him miss the remainder of the season. Aubameyang, Sterling and Kai Havertz must improve their form drastically but a new striker signing may be the best solution for Potter.

Ex-Chelsea defender William Gallas believes his former club must sign a new striker in January to help Boehly avoid 'failure' in his first full season as co-owner. Gallas told Genting Casino: "Of course [Chelsea must sign a striker], they’ve been struggling for goals. Chelsea will need a striker.

"I think getting into the top four will be very difficult for them, even if they went out and signed a forward. It will be very hard for Chelsea to finish in the top four."

Gallas has claimed that Boehly would have 'failed' as Blues co-owner if the club miss out on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season. The French icon added: "If Chelsea don’t finish in the top four, Todd Boehly would have failed.

"There can be no excuses for a club like Chelsea finishing outside of the top four. We are always very quick to judge players on their performance.

"It should be the same for the owner. He arrived and spent a lot of money, but if he doesn’t qualify for the top four he would have failed."
