Todd Boehly huge Frenkie De Jong and Wesley Fofana Chelsea plan might face transfer hurdle

After the £4.25bn record takeover of Chelsea Football Club in May, co-owner Todd Boehly has wasted little time looking to clarify his ambitions.

Around £150m has been spent to acquire the eye-catching trio of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella, among others.

There are still hopes Chelsea are still set the spend more before the end of this summer transfer window in a few weeks' time, with Leicester defender Wesley Fofana and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong top of the wishlist. However, under a new regime, there are questions already being posed over how much the Blues can actually spend.

A recent piece in The Athletic breaks down Chelsea's finances, and if there should be major concerns, than an extra £70m could be splashed on De Jong and then up to £85m on Fofana.

"The situation has flipped. Just as supporters shouldn't have been worried about not buying enough players a few weeks ago, they shouldn't be worried about player sales now. It will happen." Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire says in the piece.

Unlike Roman Abramovich, there is an expectation under Boehly and Clearlake that a more suitable model will be implemented to lessen the extensive spending that became the norm under the previous regime. Boehly, though, is looking to keep Chelsea competitive from the off, and it looks like the spending will not be stopping after Cucurella.
