Todd Boehly has £70m transfer option to solve Chelsea issue and reverse Thomas Tuchel decision

Chelsea's ongoing issues in the final third this season have placed further emphasis on a need for an out-and-out goalscorer. The Blues have scored the fewest number of goals in the league's top 11 and have only scored more than one in seven Premier League games.

Post-World Cup, Chelsea have scored seven goals in 13 games. Joao Felix's temporary move from Atletico Madrid has injected a desired quality in Graham Potter's frontline, but the Portuguese has managed to net just the single goal in five games.

Kai Havertz is often preferred to take up the central position of Chelsea's front three. However, the German has failed to kick on from his famous UEFA Champions League final winner in 2021 and has faced strong criticism for his recent performances.

The focus in the summer will be on bolstering the quality in attack as the Blues look to return to the pinnacle of English football. football.london understands that RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku has already signed a pre-contract agreement, but that hasn't stopped other forwards being linked with a move to west London.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen is the most-wanted striker in European football after scoring 19 goals in 21 Serie A appearances. Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Nigerian but they face extensive competition from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal.

Todd Boehly may be forced to offer his hand elsewhere and a possible return to Stamford Bridge for Tammy Abraham could be back on the cards. According to The Athletic, Chelsea retain a strong interest in the AS Roma striker and possess a £70.8million buy-back clause in his contract - negotiated by Marina Granovskaia - which becomes active in the summer.

A high fee for a striker with only seven goals in all competitions this season. However, last season, Abraham was one of Europe's highest scorers with 27 goals to help Roma win the UEFA Conference League.

Costing Roma £36m after Thomas Tuchel came to a decision of not fancying the striker, Abraham answered all his critics in emphatic style at the Stadio Olimpico and was unfortunate to not be named in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad.

Reports in the past have claimed the 25-year-old is desperate for a return to the Premier League 'as soon as possible'. However, the striker has rebuffed the claims. "The first day I arrived at Roma, I felt at home. I'm in no hurry to get back to the Premier League because I can express my way of playing here. In Italy, I feel happy in every respect," he told Corriere dello Sport.

"Believe me, I am not thinking of the future, but only about the present. I focus exclusively on the season that is about to begin, because I want it to be even more rewarding than the first I experienced in Italy."

After progressing through the Chelsea academy - impressing in loan spells with Bristol City and Aston Villa - Abraham scored 30 goals in 82 appearances for the club between 2019 and 2021. The England international was part of the team that lifted the Champions League prior to his exit.

Bringing Abraham back to Cobham could be a serious consideration for Chelsea. However, they are not alone, with the report from The Athletic claiming scouts from Manchester United have been in regular attendance in Italy to monitor his progress.

However, from July, Chelsea have priority and Roma are obliged to inform the Blues should another suitor come in and match the buy-back clause. Abraham has less than half a season to gain attraction from Boehly, if he is to make a return.
