Todd Boehly hands Chelsea Pep Guardiola's blueprint for Thomas Tuchel's £200m rebuild mission

Thomas Tuchel will reportedly have £200 million to spend at his disposal. Todd Boehly will hit the ground running by giving the Chelsea boss the chance fans have been waiting for. Since his arrival in January 2021, Tuchel has only made one signing, Romelu Lukaku. The Chelsea squad was in desperate need of a striker. After months of negotiations with Erling Haaland, Marina Granovskaia and her team opted for another option which hasn't prospered as we would have liked.

It is important for Chelsea to give their manager full autonomy over his squad. After all, it'll be near impossible to execute a vision without the right tools. With the £200 million budget for this summer, Tuchel has more than enough to make signings, just as Pep Guardiola did after his first season with Manchester City.

It feels like it was so long ago, but just five years ago, Pep Guardiola had struggled with the Manchester City squad that he inherited, but fortunately for him, he was given the means to create the relentless army of winners that he has today. I don't want to be the one to say it, but Tuchel could take that path.

The wisest of football fans and pundits would suggest that Chelsea are in an unprecedented era and will need time for a rebuild. Though I do not predict us to become Premier League champions next season, if Guardiola could do a team overhaul and prosper, then so can Tuchel and here is my gift to Boehly to copy the blueprint.

In Guardiola's first season with Manchester City, he had struggled with his group of players. He only managed to secure a tight fourth spot for the Cityzens in the league whilst the Blues took the 2016/17 crown. That summer, he got rid of players who he did not see fit for his style of football. Players such as Kelechi Ihenacho, Aleksander Kolarov, Samir Nasri and more. He then signed Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, and Bernardo Silva. All three have contributed massively to their continuous league success. He'd spent £285.75m that summer and made just £82.22m from the departures. Having a specialist negotiator like Marina Granovskaia on his side, Tuchel may not even need to spend up to such an amount and would probably secure funds from player sales.

I suspect that we could see a handful of players leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Some of our favourites, in fact. Timo Werner, who has chants dedicated to him and is vastly adored by the fan base, is linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. Jorginho could be making his way back to Italy as Juventus registered their interest in the Italian. Marcos Alonso has caught the eye of Barcelona, whilst Hakim Ziyech's situation is still up in the air.

It'll be a bumpy summer for the Blues as they begin their rebuild journey. Luckily, with Todd Boehly's route, we may not have to wait as long as Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp did. We are moving on the same trajectory as Manchester City when Guardiola was in charge. For that reason, I am optimistic.
