Todd Boehly facing crucial £30m summer transfer decision after double Chelsea injury concern

Chelsea are likely preparing for another busy transfer window to help build on the 15 signings brought to the club by Todd Boehly since his completed take over of the club in May 2022. The Blues have spent £530million in the last two trading periods which included breaking the British record transfer record to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for over £106million.

A central midfielder and new striker are expected to be the priority positions that Chelsea aim to fill in the summer, with multiple players in their sights. In the middle of the park, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are two sought-after players likely to move on from West Ham and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen looks to be the main target for a number of top European clubs, alongside Chelsea, including Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. The Serie A league leaders do not appear content on losing their star man though, slapping a £150million valuation on Osimhen, according to Il Mattino.

Christopher Nkunku looks set to arrive in the summer, but he is not considered a natural striker; neither is January signing Joao Felix. The Portugal international is only on loan until the end of the season, but Boehly could look to sign him permanently from Atletico Madrid once his temporary stay expires.

A plethora of injuries at the start of the year in attack saw Chelsea move quickly to acquire several players in those positions. Graham Potter could now be facing a similar problem at right-back after the latest news on Reece James. England confirmed the 23-year-old was set to return to west London for assessment on an ongoing hamstring issue.

With James plagued by injury problems for the last 12 months, Malo Gusto was purchased by Chelsea in January before being immediately loaned back to Lyon. The French defender will link up with his teammates at the start of next season and could be the perfect solution to the problems facing James. Unfortunately though, the teenager suffered an injury in only his second game back in France and subsequently returned to Cobham to undergo his rehabilitation.

Gusto was not the only target for the Blues though, with Inter's Denzel Dumfries heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge switch. In the end, Chelsea opted to not sign the Dutchmen, valued at £30million, however, with concerns prominent surrounding James and Gusto, Dumfries could become an option again.

Although it looks like Dumfries won't sign for Chelsea, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has hinted that a move for Dumfries to England should not be ruled out.

Speaking to Soccernews.nl, he said: "Chelsea in the last year had contact with Denzel Dumfries' agent. So he's still probably on their list but no concrete movement in the last week or days.

"I don't know if Manchester United or Chelsea will be the destination for Denzel Dumfries because his performances in the last year weren't so impressive. Probably these clubs will have some doubts about an offer for him. At this moment there are players better than him in his position.

"It depends on the final season of Dumfries because in the last period he wasn't brilliant. In January, no Premier League clubs or top clubs, decided to go forward for him."

The 26-year-old is yet to miss a game through injury this season which could make him a tempting option with Gusto likely to need time to recover from his long-term absence.
