Chelsea's hunt for a sporting director has turned to Norwich City's Stuart Webber, according to reports from CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs. Webber is said to be one of several candidates spoken to last week, with his CV said to have impressed the Blues given the diversity of his work.
It comes as part-owner Todd Boehly continues searching for the perfect candidate to take the role, having already spent months eyeing many potential options. The American businessman has a background in sport, but hadn't in football before taking over as part of a consortium in the summer.
After a clearing of backroom staff from the previous regime, Boehly then got to work as an interim sporting director, helping previous boss Thomas Tuchel land a number of transfer targets. Chelsea smashed the Premier League record for the biggest spend in a transfer window with £271million spent in a much-needed squad revamp.

While there hasn't been the possibility of him staying on through the January transfer window as an interim option, the search continues for a full-time option. The likes of Michael Edwards - the mastermind behind Liverpool's rise to the top- and Luis Campos - currently at PSG - have been linked with a move.
However, Webber is the latest to be linked with a move during his tenure at Norwich City. The director helped guide the Canaries to several promotions to the Premier League, despite not having the most cash-rich owners in the division, though he has also struggled to help keep them in the top division.
Webber previously discussed how the model works at Norwich, saying back in 2017 to My Football Writer: "It allows the head-coach to coach. The most important thing for him is to prepare the team, to make the players better and the team better. A manager can get lost in less important stuff – if we’re signing a player, the head-coach shouldn’t be taking time away from coaching the team to deal with an agent.
"It’s also healthy to have people who can challenge the head-coach. He has the final say, but not the only say. I think managers have got the sack by being put in a position of making every decision, and making too many mistakes because they don’t have anyone to support them."
It remains to be seen if he will make the cut to be the next sporting director at Chelsea, but with the broad options at Boehly's disposal, it could take a while before he settles on the ideal one to take the club forward.
