Todd Boehly blasted for 'disgraceful' Mason Mount situation as Man Utd eye Chelsea transfer

Todd Boehly has been told that it would be a 'disgrace' if Chelsea were to sell Mason Mount. The 24-year-old midfielder faces an increasingly uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, with his contract set to expire in 12 months.

football.london understands that the Blues were once thought to be close to reaching an agreement over an extension but, following the conclusion of the World Cup in December, an offer was no longer on the table. Towards the end of January, the west Londoners then reopened negotiations with the England international, although he wasn't too keen on signing a one-year deal.

Since the start of the year, it's believed that Mount has not received another offer. Ultimately, if an agreement cannot be reached then he'll become a free agent in June 2024 and, until then, be available for a discounted price.

It's understood that Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are all seriously interested in Mount. With the England international not short of potential suitors, a switch this summer is certainly in the cards.

If Mount does leave then former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara says the situation would be a 'disgrace', branding his successors as a downgrade. Speaking on the The Sports Bar, the former Tottenham midfielder said: "That for me is a disgrace, because what they're doing is downgrading Mason Mount, who's a top player, a home-grown player who has been at the club since [six] years of age and loves the football club.

"Because this Boehly's come in and spent £600million on bang average players, they've now got to balance the books and you're downgrading for Mudryk, who has cost you £70million and has been garbage. That, for me just shows how he's not meant to run a football club."

Earlier this year, Emmanuel Petit also warned Boehly against selling Mount. Speaking to Premier League odds, the former Chelsea and Arsenal ace said: "Chelsea should try their best to keep Mount. I know he’s been linked with some big clubs, but taking away this season, he has been remarkable and he’s grown up with the club.

"He was developing into a brilliant midfield player, with goals and assists, and I think this year has been a transition year for Chelsea – so don’t put everything in a rubbish bin.

"He’s one of the last English players in the dressing room, too, which is very important for the fans. Chelsea should not make a stupid decision to sell Mount, he should stay at Chelsea."
