Former Manchester City defender Pablo Mari is to undergo surgery on his back after being one of five people stabbed in a supermarket attack. The 29-year-old footballer is due to have surgery today (October 28) following the incident, which took place last night (Friday).
Reports in Italy state that one of the five victims, believed to be an employee of the Carrefour supermarket, has died following the attack. Mari, who is currently on loan at Serie A side Monza from Premier League leaders Arsenal, is now recovering in the Niguarda hospital.
He told the Gazzetta dello Sport: "Today I was lucky, because I saw a person die in front of me." The Italian newspaper said that Mari had been walking with his wife and son, who was in a trolley, at the time of the attack at the shop in Assago, near Milan.
