Country music singer Toby Keith has revealed he has stomach cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment after the diagnosis.
The musician, 60, took to social media on Sunday to announce the news, telling his fans he has been battling the disease since late last year.
He moved to try to reassure his 1.2 million Twitter followers by insisting it was "so far, so good" as he underwent several aggressive forms of treatment.
The seven-time Grammy nominee wrote: "Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I've spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery.
"So far, so good. I need time to breath, recover and relax."
He concluded his statement: "I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can't wait. - T"
His followers were quick to offer their support to the star, with many replying to his words in the comments section.
Among them was John Rich of country duo Big & Rich, who wrote: "Hang in there, @tobykeith."
Another fan said: "Please take care of you and your family. We are here rooting for the chemo to work and to see you as soon as you're able, not one day prior!"
And a second responded: "Family first @tobykeith real fans understand. Recover recuperate regenerate… God bless you and heal you."
Ohio State Fair announced on social media that the singer's performance on July 28 had been canceled and shortly after, his publicist Elaine Schock revealed he wouldn't be playing any scheduled gigs "for now".
Toby has been a popular member of the country community for three decades after first bursting onto the scene in the early '90s.
His big breakthrough however took a number of years and came about thanks to his 1999 release How Do You Like Me Now?!
The tune hit number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and was also relatively successful on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
In January last year he was presented with the National Medal of Arts and later in the year he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
