Kilkenny ace TJ Reid has said that life can be 'cruel' and 'cut short unexpectedly' following the death of Ballyhale clubman Paul Shefflin
The former Kilkenny minor captain and brother of Cats legend Henry Shefflin passed away at just 40-years-old.
News of the father of four's death sent shockwaves through the local community of Ballyhale as well as the wider GAA community.
A minute's silence will also be held before all National Hurling League games this weekend in memory of Paul.
In an Instagram post, he wished his wife Niamh de Brun a happy birthday as he said: "Happy birthday to my beautiful wife @niamhdebrun - I will cherish every moment with you because life can be cruel and cut short unexpectedly."
The Ballyhale marksman wasn't part of the Kilkenny team that eased past Dublin yesterday evening as Brian Cody paid tribute to Shefflin.
"It's a really, really sad time for Ballyhale, Kilkenny and the whole hurling community everywhere.
"The Shefflin family are synonymous with the game, and Paul was a terrific hurler himself and obviously just a really popular figure."
