'Title favourites' - National media react to Arsenal's North London Derby win vs Tottenham

Sunday's North London Derby could go down in history after Arsenal's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur gave them a healthy eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

A huge error from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris gifted Mikel Arteta's side the opener before Martin Odegaard doubled their lead before half-time with a powerful striker along the ground. Antonio Conte's side began to come into the game after the break, forcing Aaron Ramsdale to make a string of saves but it was too little too late and the Gunners secured their first away win over their local rivals since the 2013/14 campaign.

With that being said, football.london takes a look at how the national media reacted to Arsenal's crucial victory.

Conte a bad fit?

The Guardian pointed out Spurs' poor big-game record this season, claiming that head coach Antonio Conte might not be the best fit for the Lillywhites moving forward. "Conte is one of the world’s great coaches", Jonathan Liew's post-match analysis read.

"No quibbles there. But some coaches and clubs are simply the wrong fit for each other.

"Tottenham have now played six games against the rest of the big seven and lost every one, bar the late draw at Chelsea. What is the purpose of Conte’s nous and experience if not to navigate them through the biggest games?"

Conte guided Tottenham to a fourth-placed league finish last season, finishing one place above Arsenal, but they now find themselves fifth - 14 points behind Arteta and Co.

Lloris criticism

The Mirror singled out Lloris following the Frenchman's aforementioned howler for the opening goal. Nathan Ridley's piece read: "While being a fantastic servant to Tottenham and still among the game's most revered 'keepers, Lloris has also had his fair share of miserable moments in recent years, and the 14th minute here can be added to the growing list."

The former Lyon shot-stopper announced his retirement from international football last week and perhaps Spurs should think about replacing him sooner rather than later considering he is now 36-years-old.

Title favourites

Arsenal's eight-point lead over second-placed Manchester City is hugely impressive considering how strong Pep Guardiola's squad is and The Telegraph pointed out that the north Londoners must now be considering title favourites, even if they are yet to face the Citizens this season.

"Heady days and what a difference from this fixture last season when Spurs overwhelmed a brittle Arsenal in a raucous stadium", wrote Jason Burt. "This time Spurs were booed off, while, after Manchester City’s derby loss, Arsenal are undeniably the title favourites, even though they still have to play Pep Guardiola’s side twice in the league."
