Titans vs. Chiefs predictions: NFL experts make Week 9 picks

The Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs will meet for the fifth time since 2018 when they do battle at Arrowhead Stadium on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 9.

The Titans have gotten the better of the Chiefs in three of the last four times they’ve met, with the Titans winning both regular-season meetings and one playoff contest

Tennessee won the last matchup against Kansas City in 2021 by a convincing score of 27-3, a game quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t forgotten about.

However, the Chiefs won the biggest game between these two teams in the last few years after defeating the Titans in the AFC Championship Game during the 2019 campaign.

Both teams come into this game sporting a 5-2 record, but the Chiefs have been much more impressive on offense, where Tennessee has struggled.

While it’s no surprise the Titans are underdogs, the spread is massive, with the Chiefs coming in as 12-point favorites, according to Tipico Sportsbook.

Are there any experts out there brave enough to pick Tennessee in a game not many expect them to win? Find out now in our Week 9 expert picks round-up.

CBS Sports’ Week 9 picks:

Pete Prisco: Chiefs 31, Titans 21 – “This is the game of the week, featuring Derrick Henry against Patrick Mahomes. It’s the runner vs. the passer. Give me the passer. The Titans are playing a second straight road game, while the Chiefs are off a bye and coach Andy Reid is outstanding off a bye. That’s a big edge for Kansas City, but Henry will keep his team around.

Will Brinson: Chiefs

Ryan Wilson: Chiefs

Vinnie Iyer: Chiefs 27, Titans 20 – “The Titans tend to give the Chiefs problems because of their dedication to Derrick Henry and the running game to pound their defense and work to limit the chances for Patrick Mahomes and the offense. But as much as the Titans have overachieved against the run and with the pass rush, they are a bit too leaky in secondary coverage to think they will make more big plays in the back end that they give up.”

Bill Bender: Chiefs 31, Titans 22 – “Ryan Tannehill should have time to return for this game, and the Titans are going to have to be more than Derrick Henry in this matchup. Kansas City is tough at home, but three games at Arrowhead Stadium have been decided by a combined total of eight points this season. Patrick Mahomes II is 1-2 against the Titans, and that includes the AFC championship victory in 2020. This game will feel like that in the second half. The line is still too high.”

Gregg Rosenthal: Chiefs 35, Titans 24 – “The last time we saw the Chiefs, they eclipsed 40 points against one of the NFL’s best defenses with Patrick Mahomes being touched just three times. The Titans’ defensive front is scary, but Mahomes is an expert when it comes to picking out mismatches. Derrick Henry is on one right now, and the Titans are stubborn enough to keep running him even if they are trailing. If Malik Willis starts for the second straight week in place of the injured Ryan Tannehill, take 10 points away from Tennessee.”
