The Tennessee Titans made three expected cuts on Wednesday, one of which included the team parting ways with veteran wide receiver Robert Woods.
Woods was initially brought in via trade with the Los Angeles Rams to be the team’s No. 2 receiver, but he was thrust into a leading role after the Titans foolishly traded away A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Granted, the Titans’ offense was a mess in general, but Woods certainly didn’t help with his inability to separate and issues with drops. It made all the sense in the world to cut him and save $12 million.
Don’t feel bad for Woods, though. The veteran is quite content with being a free agent, something he made clear on Twitter.
Free!

Where should I go 👀😁

Woods is just the latest veteran wide receiver to come to Nashville and fail. It’s a Titans tale as old as time.
Now, here’s a look at what Titans Twitter had to say about the move.
First time Woods has gotten free since he showed up in Tennessee…

$25.3M total (plus losing a net 2nd and 4th) for one season each of Robert Woods and Julio Jones
Less than 1,000 combined receiving yards, 3 total touchdowns
Coulda paid AJB with that 🥴

Titans taking on Woods’ full contract fresh off an ACL tear made little sense. Still a solid player though, good year to be a cap casualty wide receiver
Titans just cleared about $27M in 2023 cap in an hour https://t.co/t3dZUSkNe0

Although the only thing I will miss about Bobby Trees is @pratt_up always telling me he was going to throw me a Christmas Tree, I will always be thankful for this moment the Robert Woods gave Bryce. pic.twitter.com/f2ukPzIM1W

Most saw this coming, but you can’t entirely blame Woods. Once AJ was traded Woods was miscast in a role he couldn’t fill. Still, the release is justified and necessary. Time to get faster and younger at WR…#Titans https://t.co/c2vm2SG7la

Not Robert Woods! He did so much while he was here. https://t.co/29262Tpk2E pic.twitter.com/z327gMccoW

“Oh man Robert Woods couldn’t WAIT to get out of this offense!!” Like he wasn’t part of the problem with his 0.68 yards of separation ass

This Robert Woods release leads me to believe something special might be brewing in the Carthon Laboratory as it pertains to Wide Receivers #Titans

But I was told by #Titans fans last off-season that Robert Woods was going to step right in and replicate what AJ Brown did for them? Wait?!? So you’re telling me they were delusional and uninformed? https://t.co/H3GMGrj1V2 pic.twitter.com/Yra1XST5BV

I guess we can add Robert Woods to the list of formerly good wide receivers who signed with the Titans and were suddenly not good. https://t.co/YcGfsIaKTl

Did not come close to providing what the #Titans needed from him. Helped show just how good the guy they traded away was. https://t.co/t31ta9zMkA
