Titans trade Malik Willis to the Green Bay Packers

The Tennessee Titans made a flurry of moves on Monday as they pare down their roster to meet the league mandated 53. The most notable of the day may have been the most surprising as well: trading quarterback Malik Willis to the Green Bay Packers, reportedly in exchange for a seventh-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Locked in a training camp battle with quarterback Mason Rudolph to be the backup to Will Levis, the idea of moving on from Willis has been floating around media outlets for some time. While he has shown improvements in training camp, his performances during the preseason have been up and down.

“I think I’m just trying to take it day by day. And continue to work hard to handle any mishaps, learn from them, and just, and continue to grow each day,” he said when asked about the subject following the Titans’ 30-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

A former third-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, Willis played in 11 games (1-2 as a starter). He finishes his Titans’ career completing 35-of-66 passes (53 percent) for 350 yards, zero touchdowns, three interceptions and a 49.4 quarterback rating. He also ran 32 times for 144 yards and one touchdown, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.

Willis made strides this preseason, completing 20-of-27 passes for 205 yards (7.6 yards per completion), two touchdowns and an interception. On Sunday, he sparked the Titans’ comeback with two touchdown passes to Bryce Oliver in the victory. Now, he heads to Green Bay to likely become a backup to Jordan Love.
