It’s growing increasingly unlikely that the Tennessee Titans trade star running back Derrick Henry before Tuesday’s deadline.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Titans have told Henry they don’t plan on trading him, although Schefter says “this doesn’t mean he won’t be traded by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.”
He also reports that there isn’t much interest in Henry around the league as a result of “his age, production and expiring contract and cost for the rest of this season.”
Schefter notes that the acquiring team would most likely have to restructure Henry’s contract, with the deadline to do that coming on Monday at 4 p.m. ET.
Another report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport says the Titans told Henry they aren’t shopping him but the team is expected to listen to offers for the Alabama product and “most players on their roster.”
They add that the Titans are looking for more than a mid-round pick in exchange for Henry.
These reports are just the latest suggesting Tennessee won’t be very active at the trade deadline, barring offers that blow the team away.
Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini on Saturday, Titans general manager Ran Carthon “is not moving on any offer unless it’s exceptional,” which includes offers for Henry and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, specifically.
