Titans should not entertain this trade-back scenario with Bills

The Tennessee Titans trading back from the No. 7 overall pick has become all the rage in recent weeks, and now Buffalo Bills fans and media are dreaming up a new scenario in the wake of the Stefon Diggs trade.

Buffalo dealt it’s No. 1 receiver to the Titans’ division rival, the Houston Texans, which has left the Bills in dire need of a wide receiver ahead of 2024.

Unfortunately for the Bills, there isn’t anyone close to Diggs’ level available in free agency, and they aren’t on the board until the No. 28 overall pick, where they could still conceivably land an impact receiver.

One Bills beat writer, The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia, is dreaming up a trade in which the Titans deal their Nos. 7 and 182 picks to Buffalo for 2024 pick Nos. 28, 60 (second round), 133 (fourth round) and a 2025 first-rounder.

It would no doubt be intriguing to add an additional second-rounder and a future first, especially considering the Titans don’t have a third-round pick in 2024 or 2025. And, based on the trade value chart, the Titans would get the better of the deal, no matter where Buffalo’s 2025 first-round pick ends up.

Despite all that, the Titans should not consider trading back this far in the first round under any circumstances, as such a deal would make it far less likely they land the blue-chip player they so desperately need.

The only way I’m entertaining a trade back from that spot is if Joe Alt isn’t there, and even then I may opt for one of the top-three receivers.

If all four of those players are gone, then by all means, trade back. However, chances are the Titans will be able to do better than what the Bills can offer should they end up going that route.
