Watching the 2023 Tennessee Titans has mostly been a frustrating experience during the season. The team often struggles with getting in its own way, poor play-calling, a lack of execution, or some combination of the three.
Yet, according to ESPN Analytics, Tennessee is winning its matchups upfront more often than not through the first nine weeks.
Ironically, the Titans’ run defense, which was once considered the strength of the team, has now turned into the weakest link. Meanwhile, the Titans rank inside the top 12 when it comes to their win rates in three out of the four listed categories.
One area that might really surprise those who follow Tennessee closely is its pass-block win rate. The Titans have one of the better pass-blocking units in the league, per ESPN.
I won’t pretend like I watch every offensive line closely enough to know whether that’s a fact or not.
However, if that is the case, that’s more of an indictment on the quality of offensive line play across the league than it is on how well the Titans are performing upfront.
Nonetheless, that’s the reality of the research ESPN’s Analytics team has put in. Let’s take a look to see exactly where the Titans sit after eight games.
