Titans QB Malik Willis discusses his play, remains focused on improving

In the Tennessee Titans’ win over the Seattle Seahawks, Malik Willis did not play to the best of his ability. He struggled early with decision-making and knowing when he was under pressure, which eventually caused him to be sacked twice and to throw an interception.

Willis is entering the third year of his rookie contract. He knows he has to start making improvements if he wants a contract extension or a shot at signing with another team when his contract expires. He was asked about his play after the Seattle game.

“…penalties early, and it hurt us. You know, you go from 3rd-and-7 to 3rd-and-12, you go from 3rd-and-6 to 3rd-and-10, and it’s hard to convert those in the National Football League, whether it’s preseason or not.

So it’s finding ways to get the ball out fast if they’re getting home a little bit quicker; I think that’s what I need to work on from that point of view.”

As a follow-up, Willis was asked about his comfort with the offense. He appears more comfortable in the pocket this season, something he attributes to learning from his mistakes.

“I think also that I’ve just continued to try to learn from any miscues I’ve had in the past and just try to understand the essence of where I went wrong and just continue to try to build on it.”

Willis is battling with Mason Rudolph for the job of backing up starting quarterback Will Levis. Right now, Rudolph has the edge. But if Willis continues to improve, that could change at any time.
