Titans’ Nate Davis named an underrated free-agent guard by PFF

Tennessee Titans right guard Nate Davis is among the team’s biggest priorities during the 2023 offseason as he prepares to hit free agency.

If Davis does hit the open market, Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness believes Davis is one of, if not the most underrated players available at the position. Here’s why:

Nate Davis had his best season as a pass blocker, producing a 66.8 PFF grade in that facet and allowing just 14 total pressures over 385 pass-blocking snaps in 2022. While he’s not going to be a difference-maker on the offensive line, he could help a team avoid a weak link in the group. A better run blocker than a pass blocker, he has played 3,709 snaps and is just 26 years old as he hits free agency.

While Davis has steadily improved as a pass-blocker and is a solid starter, his ability to stay healthy remains a question mark. He has only played in every game once, and he’s missed eight games over the past two years, including a career-high five in 2022.

Not exactly injury prone, sure, but any player with injury issues needs extra examination after Tennessee has been the most injured team in the NFL the past two seasons.

As far as what he’s expected to command on the open market, Davis is estimated to receive a deal somewhere in the range $7.4 million per, according to Spotrac.

Despite the aforementioned injury concern, I figured there was a good chance that the Titans and Davis would work something out, but my stance has since changed.

That’s because Jim Wyatt of Titans Online recently wrote that he would “be surprised” if the Charlotte product is brought back. After reading that, I’m pretty much convinced he’s gone.

If Davis and Tennessee do part ways, he’ll no doubt have plenty of interest on the open market and should land himself a pretty solid contract in 2023.
