Titans’ Mike Vrabel on O-line: ‘There’s just too much inconsistency’

The Tennessee Titans’ revamped starting offensive line has been a question mark the entire offseason, something that won’t change until the unit actually takes the field in the regular season and shows it’s capable over the course of multiple games.

After a mostly rough camp against a talented defensive front, the starters (LT Andre Dillard, LG Peter Skoronski, C Aaron Brewer, RG Daniel Brunskill and RT Chris Hubbard) have been good during the preseason, although the group certainly had its issues in the run game in preseason Week 3.

When asked about the O-line the day after the 23-7 win over the New England Patriots, head coach Mike Vrabel said he’s looking for more consistency from the unit, per Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com.

“We need to go out and play better, and use our rules, and block better, finish better. I would say that entire group has to have a big week,” he said. “The entire group, there’s just too much inconsistency.”

One thing that seemed concerning was the fact that left tackle Andre Dillard played longer than any of the other starters, with his playtime extending into the second half while his starting mates were on the sideline.

After calling it a “coach’s decision” following the game, Vrabel expanded on that a bit, saying Dillard’s limited snaps the last few years played a role in giving him more reps on Friday night. However, he also threw in that the Titans only saw what they wanted to see from him “at times.”

With no more dress rehearsals, the next time we’ll see the Titans’ offensive line will be in Week 1 against a New Orleans Saints defense that sports a pass-rush that finished top five in 2022 and features Cameron Jordan.
