The Titans have ruled quarterback Ryan Tannehill out for Thursday night’s game against the Steelers, paving the way for rookie Will Levis to make his second consecutive start.
Tannehill sprained his ankle in Tennessee’s 24–16 loss to the Ravens two weeks ago in London. Levis made his first professional start in Tannehill’s place last Sunday, throwing for 238 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the team’s 28–23 win over the Falcons. Levis became the first Kentucky quarterback to throw three touchdowns in an NFL game since Tim couch against the Bengals in 2002, per On3.
Given Tannehill’s mediocre season when he’s been healthy, another strong start for Levis could put pressure on coach Mike Vrabel to make the rookie the permanent starter, even once Tannehill is healthy. That would certainly be a good problem to have for Vrabel and the Titans.
Tennessee will look to improve to 4–4 on the season on Thursday in Pittsburgh. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
