Every NFL team had until 12 p.m. EDT on Wednesday to solidify their practice squads and make waiver wire claims. That deadline has since passed, and while we’re still waiting on the final practice squad list, we have learned that the Tennessee Titans claimed two players from the waiver wire: Defensive end Ali Gaye and defensive back Julius Wood.
Gaye comes to Tennessee from the Houston Texans. Born in Gambia, Gaye came to the United States when he was 12. He attended LSU, where he recorded 32 tackles (9.5 for a loss), two sacks, and six passes defensed en route to being named second-team All-Southeastern Conference in his only season with the team. His one season in Houston was with the practice squad as an undrafted free agent.
Julius Wood signed with the Dallas Cowboys on May 9, 2024, as an undrafted free agent. He attended East Carolina University, where he led his team in tackles in 2022 and 2023 with 87 and 86, respectively.
Newest #Titans DB Julius Wood:
– UDFA out of East Carolina, signed with the Cowboys.
– 1 forced fumble, 2 interceptions during the 2024 preseason.

The Titans still need to solidify their defensive depth. Their starting lineup is solid, but if any one of them gets injured, there’s not much to draw from.
In claiming these two players from waivers, the Titans must release two players they kept yesterday.
UPDATE: The Titans waived OLB Rashad Weaver and cut TE Nick Vannett to offset the additions of Gaye and Wood.
