Tipping Point fans in hysterics after contestant makes epic Rihanna gaffe

Tipping Point fans were left in fits of laughter during Thursday’s instalment of the hit ITV game show, when an eager quizzer took a punt on a film-themed question.

ITV contestant Darien was tasked with a series of questions by host Ben Shephard which saw him taking an educated guess.

One of these came when Ben asked: “Which Hollywood composer wrote the scores for The Lion King, Inception and Pearl Harbor?”

Fellow contestant Andrew chose to pass the question to Darien, who briefly agonised over the answer, telling host Ben that he did not know any Hollywood composers.

He decided to take a stab at an answer, leaving ITV viewers open-mouthed when he went with the guess of 34-year-old singer Rihanna, who was 13-years-old when Pearl Harbor was released in 2001.

Darien said: "I can't think of any. I'm going to have to at this stage take a wild guess and go for...Rihanna."

ITV viewers were left howling over the answer and took to Twitter to giggle along with Ben Shephard, who smiled in response to the mistake.

One wrote: “Oh good Lord!! Someone save me now!!! Rihanna???!!!!” as another posted: “That was the single most funniest answer ever.”

A third laughing viewer posted: “Oh my god… Rihanna, my parents are crying with laughter.”

Another tweeted: “Was she even fucking born when Pearl Harbor was released,” and another wrote: “Rihanna…that world famous Hollywood composer.”

A fellow ITV fan posted: “Rihanna! Flipping brilliant stuff,” as another wrote: “Which Hollywood composer wrote the scores for The Lion King, Inception and Pearl Harbour... and he said RIHANNA?!”

The awkward moment reminded fans of a viral episode from last October where host Ben asked primary teacher Dom: “In his epic poems, Homer often refers to the nectar as the drink of the gods and which other substance as their food?”

Dom replied: “I know he likes doughnuts,” with Ben looking flabbergasted by the answer. “I think I’ll go with doughnuts please, Ben.”

The moment last October went viral with millions of people watching it around the world, but Ben insists answering questions on the quiz to try to win £10,000 is not as easy as it looks.

Ben has since said that the silliest answers on his quiz come from being under pressure and he insists he “makes a fool of himself regularly” in moments which end up on the cutting room floor.

Ben said: “These people are under pressure in an environment and their minds go blank and they can’t think of anything and the words don’t make sense. And I just have so much admiration for all of them.

“There have been some amazing answers but to be fair to all those people that come in, they are incredibly brave to take on the machine. And I would hate to think anybody would be nervous about coming in because they’re worried about making a fool of themselves, because I have done it on a number of occasions, and continue to make a fool of myself regularly.

"And I think that anybody can, when you’re under pressure like that. And hopefully they feel like we’re laughing with them and not laughing at them, because I would hate that to be the case."
