Tipping Point bosses have broken the sad news of a death of a contestant who appeared on Wednesday's show and extended their sympathies to her family as host Ben Shephard paid his own tribute.
As it does every day on ITV, the hit quiz show was all set to air at 4pm when a post on the Tipping Point Twitter account announced the sad news that one of the players in it, Cath, had passed away. The post read: "After the recording of today's programme, we spoke with Cath’s family who shared the sad news of Cath's passing. Everyone at Tipping Point would like to extend their sincerest sympathies"
Ben shared a backstage photo of himself alongside Cath, who answered questions on Star Wars and star signs correctly in the early rounds,, and her fellow contestants and wrote: "Today’s Tipping Point is a poignant one… since recording the show, lovely contestant Cath, pictured backstage here, has passed away. Our thoughts and love are with her family and friends." Reacting to Ben's post, one fan replied: "Oh no. When was this ep recorded Ben? #RIP Cath. Thinking of your family & friends.," with a second writing: "Bless her. Fly high Cath."
After seeing Cath make an early exit in third place, another reacted: "Bless her. Sad to hear when this happens. Thoughts with all the family," with another viewer tweeting: "I'm devastated to hear this and would like to offer my condolences to Cath's friends and family."
Tipping Point presenter Ben led tributes last year after learning of the death of another player, Margaret, who went onto win the show during her appearance.. The presenter told his many followers that her family wished for it to go out to millions of viewers as he honoured her in a Twitter post seen by his many followers.
He wrote: "This was such a lovely show, and Margaret was a very special and worthy winner. We were so sorry to hear of her passing, but her loved ones were keen that her episode was shown and enjoyed. I just want to send all my love and thoughts to her husband Paul and her family."
