Tinder and Hinge swipe left on Russia as dating apps pull out of country over 'human rights'

The owners of Hinge and Tinder say they will be pulling out of Russia citing 'human rights' as the reason. Match Group has announced that by June 30, members of the public in Russia will no longer be able to access their dating apps.

The move was revealed during an annual impact report which was published on Monday (May 1). In the report, Match said they were ‘committed to protecting human rights’ and are restricting access to their servers in Russia.

Match are the developers of a number of dating apps such as Tinder, Hinge and PlentyOfFish. Match group are the latest in a longline of major corporations that have pulled out of Russia since it’s war against Ukraine began in 2022.

Spotify, McDonald’s, H&M and Apple are just some of the few who have ceased trading in Russia and halted shipments of their products.

In their annual impact report, Match Group said: "We are committed to protecting human rights.

"Our brands are taking steps to restrict access to their services in Russia and will complete their withdrawal from the Russian market by June 30, 2023."
