Tina Turner has admitted she’s convinced that she’s just as famous for her legs as her iconic singing voice, despite having sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
In the past, it was claimed that Turner had insured her legs for more than £2 million and, while the jury is still out on that, the hitmaker, 83, explained how having her gams on show on stage became an inherent part of her style.
The Best singer shared: “Sometimes I think I’m as famous for my legs as much as my voice.
“I only had my legs on show so much as it made it much easier to dance… And then it became part of my style.
“When I was younger, I never felt confident about any part of my body, but with all the attention my legs received, I realised they must be OK!” she told The Sun.
On Tuesday, the music icon is celebrating the fifth anniversary of her West End show Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.
The acclaimed stage show tells Turner’s story from childhood through to becoming a stadium-selling artist, after overcoming all the odds.
The show includes her greatest hits including Proud Mary, River Deep Mountain High and What’s Love Got To Do With It.
The Switzerland-based star retired from performing in 2009 after her 50th anniversary tour and has said that the closest her fans will get to witnessing her perform live again is by seeing an actress play her in the show.
While known for her energetic and mesmerising stage presence, Turner admitted that she had enjoyed watching West End performers portray her throughout the various chapters of her life.
She shared: “They don’t copy me, they have to find a version of me in themselves. It isn’t just the singing and dancing… the acting talent to play me is immense. One actor plays me from 17 until 40 years old and is barely off stage.”
