Chelsea forward Timo Werner has touched down in his native Germany as he prepares to complete a transfer back to RB Leipzig.
The 26-year-old moved from the Red Bull Arena to Stamford Bridge in June 2020 after the Blues activated his £47.5million release clause at Leipzig. He arrived in the Premier League on the back of a 28-goal Bundesliga season but only scored 23 times in all competitions during his two seasons with Chelsea.
It became clear Thomas Tuchel was willing to part ways with his compatriot, who has his heart set on playing regularly to earn a spot in Hansi Flick's squad for the World Cup this winter. Talks with Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff progressed quickly and a return to Leipzig was quickly thrashed out with the Chelsea hierarchy despite interest from Juventus.
