Timm Klose explains why he has joined Bristol City on a free transfer

Timm Klose admits he was sold on Bristol City's potential after becoming the club's first arrival of the January transfer window.

The 33-year-old centre-back has penned a short-term deal until the end of the season after impressing during a trial period at the club.

Manager Nigel Pearson was eager to bolster his numbers at the back following the long-term injury to Nathan Baker while hoping to add a more physical presence to his squad.

Klose, who joins on a free transfer, has been without a club since the summer following a loan spell in Switzerland with Basel.

Speaking to Robins TV, Klose said: "I've played here several times and it's always a hard place to play because they have a good squad and a good mentality.

"The lads have accepted me in very well, and with the new training facilities that helped me get a very good look at everything.

"You can sense there is something going on here and that's why I think it's the right decision to join here.

"I'm really looking forward to proving to myself that I'm capable again and every time I go out on that pitch I'll leave my heart on it. I will give everything for the club.

"I fell in love with the Championship because I think it's brilliant league and there's a lot of games. It's a very competitive league and I really love playing in it."

Klose has highlighted his strengths as his aerial threat - something that will come as music to the ears of supporters particularly after conceding two set-pieces in Tuesday's defeat at Luton.

He added: "With my height I would say I'm very good at heading and I'd also say I can read the game well. I may not be the fastest player on the pitch but sometimes you need to be faster in the head rather than with the feet as a defender."

Klose arrives in BS3 with plenty of experience having featured 117 times for the Canaries in both the Championship and Premier League.

He also earned promotion to the Premier League with Norwich in 2019 and has international pedigree under his belt with 17 caps for Switzerland.

The veteran, who can play in a three at the back and is particularly impressive with the ball at his feet, will wear the No25 shirt during his time at the club.

Assistant Curtis Fleming was full of praise for Klose in Thursday's press conference and suggested the coaching staff have been hugely impressed with his character and attitude.

He said: "He was willing to come over and show us what he can do. He's been saying 'I can do this, I can do that... if you want me to come over and have a look then no problem' and I think that was a real positive for everybody.

"He's come over, he's very, very experienced. The biggest thing that is very important, you can get some players say 'I've done so much in the game, I'm not coming over, I've got two promotions, I've played in the Premier League' but he wanted to come over and show us his fitness.

"(It's important to) look at all the aspects of what his position in the Championship may encounter. This morning was a good chance to test him in all those aspects and he looked strong."
