Timeline of Johnny Depp and Kate Moss' relationship as model set to give evidence in Amber Heard trial

The model Kate Moss is set to give evidence tomorrow in the libel trial her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp has brought against Amber Heard. Moss and Depp's relationship wasn't always plain-sailing but it is thought the pair remain on good terms.

A-list actor Depp launched the $100m suit against ex-wife and Aquaman star Heard after she wrote an essay about him in the Washington Post, accusing him of domestic abuse. During her testimony, Heard brought up a rumour that Depp had once pushed Moss down a flight of stairs.

Depp’s lawyer Ben Chew appeared to pump his fist in celebration after Heard mentioned Moss on the stand because that means the model can now be called to give evidence in the case. Moss, who will appear via video link at the trial in Virginia, is expected to speak warmly about her time with Depp - while quelling the staircase allegation.

Depp, now 58, and Moss, 48, dated for three years in the mid-1990s - becoming one of Hollywood’s most famous and talked-about couples. But despite their strong feelings towards one another, the relationship also became known for its occasional turbulent nature.

How did Johnny Depp and Kate Moss meet?

The pair met at popular cafe and supermodel hangout Tabac in New York in 1994 when Moss was 20 and Depp was 31. It was a year after Depp had split from actress Winona Ryder and he still had a ‘Winona Forever' tattoo on his arm.

Writer George Wayne, the former Vanity Fair celebrity columnist, revealed on Instagram how he introduced them. He wrote: “It was The GW who introduced Kate Moss to Johnny Depp....one fateful night mid 90’s at Cafe Tabac, which was the supermodel hangout back in the day!

“Johnny was in the back having dinner and Kate walked in with Naomi and The GW grabbed her and made the introduction! I had no idea that they would then become the IT couple for seasons to come.”

Moss has told how she knew they would be together from the first moment. A short time after they met, a friend of Depp’s told People magazine: “They can’t keep their hands, lips, mouths, legs off of each other.”

But, later that same year, Depp was arrested for criminal mischief after he allegedly trashed a Manhattan hotel room following a heated bust-up with Moss. A judge later dismissed the case against him - and he paid around $10,000 in damages to the hotel.

Was Johnny Depp married to Kate Moss?

The couple never married and they split in 1997 - three years after they met. Depp blamed the break-up on his struggle to balance his work schedule with the relationship.

He told Hello magazine: “'I'm the one who has to take responsibility for what happened. I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way and I didn't give her the attention I should have done.”

Moss, meanwhile, said the split had a profound effect on her. She told Vanity Fair: “I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!'

Are Johnny Depp and Kate Moss still friends?

After the break-up, they were spotted together again at the Cannes Film Festival in 1998 but then they went their separate ways. Depp met French model Vanessa Paradis while he was filming The Ninth Gate that same year and they started a 14-year relationship - during which they had two children, Lily-Rose and Jack.

Depp and Paradis never married, however, and split in 2012. Three years later, Depp married Heard.

Moss, meanwhile, went on to be romantically linked with musicians Pete Doherty and Jamie Hince. In 2002, she had a daughter - Lila Grace - with Dazed & Confused editor Jefferson Hack and she is now dating photographer Nikolai von Bismarck.

But Depp and Moss have remained on good terms and the model is expected to publicly support her ex at the libel trial.
