Tim Allen says Jay Leno is still 'handsome' as he updates on terrifying car fire

Tim Allen has issued an update on Jay Leno after he contracted serious burns from a car fire, saying he is still 'handsome'.

The actor went to visit his comedian friend while he was recovering from his injuries in hospital.

Jay was working on fixing a clogged fuel line on his 1907 White Steam Car in his Burbank garage when the car erupted into flames.

He has been left with burns on his hands, face and chest and is now recovering in the Grossman Burn Center in West Hills, California.

The former Tonight Show host is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

Following his visit to the hospital, Tim, 69, told TMZ that Jay was doing well under the circumstances and he is still 'handsome'.

Tim told the outlet: "He’s good. It’s wonderful because he’s feeling better. I gave him some car magazines, he did some jokes, because that’s what we do. We commiserated and just connected as friends, it’s the one thing you can do."

He then went on to talk about how the burns on Jay's face were looking.

He joked: "His face looks great. It didn’t look all that good to begin with. He’s going with the George Clooney look, you’re going to be surprised.

"He’s handsome and he’s happy and the hospital is doing a great job taking care of him."

Dr Peter Grossman, who is treating Jay, said Jay had suffered a mix between second-degree and some third-degree burns.

Metro reported that he said: "When got pulled out from the area underneath the car, it was noted that he had pretty significant burns to face and hands. His burns include his face, his hands, and his chest, the burns are fairly significant.

"Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning. Right now, they’re in that progression of somewhere between deep second and third-degree burns to the face.

"We’re hoping we can keep them from progressing by using these alternate treatments, including good wound care and hyperbaric oxygen and aggressive surgical management."

Jay has been seen with his burns covered in bandages as he underwent treatment in a hyperbaric chamber which helps to 'decrease swelling, increase blood flow with good oxygenation and decrease bacteria'.

Jay is best known for being a US presenter and comedian.

He took over NBC’s Tonight when long-time host Johnny Carson retired in 1992, and returned for another stint from 2010 to 2014, before handing over the reins to current host Jimmy Fallon.
