TILDA: One of Scotland's greatest actors makes her return to Edinburgh stage

Actor Tilda Swinton has had an illustrious career, spanning many decades and covering many genres – and she’s not done yet (Image: Supplied)

ON Thursday, October 29, a little bit of Scottish theatre history will be made at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. The great Scottish actor Tilda Swinton – who is, surely, one of the finest film actors of the age – will return to our capital city with a celebrated production that she last presented on the Edinburgh stage almost 40 years ago.

In 1987 – at the age of just 26 – Swinton performed East German writer Manfred Karge’s play Man To Man at the Traverse, to considerable critical acclaim. In this 1982 monodrama, Swinton played the role of Ella/Max Gericke, a woman in 1930s Germany who takes on the persona of her dead husband in order to do his job as a crane operator.
