Tiktoker Stuck In Tesla During Software Update, Faces Heatwave

Mercedes-Benz holds a strategy update event focused on software in California

A TikToker recently shared her experience of getting stuck in her Tesla on a hot day while the car was completing a software update. The TikToker, known as Brianna Janel, explained in a series of videos that she expected the update to last 24 minutes, but found herself locked inside the car even after her work call had ended.

Janel described the intense heat inside the car, reaching 103 degrees, as she was unable to open the doors or windows due to the ongoing software update. The internal temperature of a car can rise significantly in a short period, as demonstrated by the Omni Calculator, which indicates that on a 75-degree day, the temperature inside a car can reach up to 115°F in just 40 minutes.

Tesla's user manual warns owners that certain safety features are disabled during software updates and advises against opening doors or windows during the process to avoid potential damage to the vehicle. The manual does not specify the exact risks, but with Tesla models starting at $38,990, owners have a financial incentive to follow the guidelines.

Commenters on the viral video were divided in their opinions, with some suggesting Janel should have used the emergency manual release, while others criticized Tesla for what they perceived as a safety issue.

Janel, who had owned her Tesla for about 6 years, decided to wait out the update rather than risk damaging her vehicle. After 40 minutes, she was able to exit the car and expressed relief at feeling the cool air conditioning. Despite the ordeal, she maintained her appreciation for her Tesla but cautioned others against updating the car while inside.

She advised viewers to update their vehicles at a more convenient time, emphasizing the importance of avoiding potential risks. Janel's video garnered significant attention on TikTok, highlighting the importance of following safety guidelines during software updates in vehicles.
